Thanks to Valve’s Twitter feed, avid Half-Life devotees now know exactly when they will get to sink into the studio’s newest sci-fi creation, and unfortunately, it won’t be at midnight. According to the post, Half-Life: Alyx will launch on March 23 at 10 AM PT. By extension, that means it will drop 1 PM ET, 5 PM in the UK, and 4 AM on March 24 for Australian users.

Alongside the announcement of the release time, Valve has also clarified that fans can preload the game on Steam on Friday, meaning they won’t have to wait for the game to install when it hits the storefront officially on March 23. No doubt the prequel is going to be one of the biggest and most exciting releases of the entire year, with fans likely waiting with bated breath for the minute it releases.

For the scant few who are unaware of why Alyx is such an exciting prospect, the Half-Life franchise has been on ice for over 13 years following a monumental cliff hanger that Valve has since never resolved. While this game is a prequel and likely won’t build on the frustratingly unfinished cliff hanger that Half-Life 2: Chapter 2 posed, it’s undeniably exciting to see the major company return to the classic franchise, with many claiming that the ambitious title will attempt to revolutionize VR for good. With the company often being considered one of the most boundary-pushing names in the entire industry, there’s no denying that there’s precedent to be excited.

Many also wonder whether the game will sew the seeds for a long-awaited and highly-requested Half-Life 3, with the studios renewed interest in the beloved property hinting that there might still be life in it yet. While it seems more likely that the title is merely a project designed to showcase the power of Valve’s new VR software, franchise veterans have managed to draw hope for a potential threequel in much less likely places.

Half-Life: Alyx will be available March 23 at 10 AM PT on PC.
