Well, an exciting episode does not only mean countless action sequences from start to finish. A return to the usual Gundam style backstabbing and political intrigue is also quite exciting to watch. And judging from the fact that there seems to be numerous nefarious plots going on in different companies within the Benerit Group in regard to obtaining Gundam Aerial, it’s safe to say that we’re about to see the dark side of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury pretty soon.

Circling Thoughts

Thanks to Suletta and the team’s win at the previous duel, the Gund-Arm Inc. can finally operate like a proper company. This means the team is now divided into three distinct departments, each with their own unique responsibilities. As the head of the company, Miorine has to talk to the investors, contacting various potential suppliers and customers, and also engage in multiple interviews. Meanwhile, Suletta and several other members of the Earthian House are the ones who create the products, which is a pair of prosthetic legs. Last but not least are a couple of students who are responsible for the accounting and marketing.

Unfortunately, these newfound activities create some sort of rift between Suletta and Miorine. After all, not only do they rarely meet with each other now, but Miorine’s head is also filled with business-related stuff, so she can sometimes seem a bit cold to other people. That is bad news for an innocent girl like Suletta. Not only that, there also seems to be a misunderstanding happening between the two that will likely turn into something bigger later on.

Meanwhile, Shaddiq received the news about the Jeturk’s plan on assassinating Delling Rembran. His father initially opposed this idea, but Shaddiq convinced him to work together with the Jeturks. So Shaddiq contacts a group of mercenaries, who turn out to be people from Earth who called themselves Dawn of Fold, in order to do the dirty deed. They plan to attack Delling when he is en route to Plant Quetta. The most surprising thing, however, is the fact that Dawn of Fold has two Gundams among their ranks.

Shaddiq’s Ambition

It’s clear from the get go that some students within the Asticassia School of Technology hold an incredible amount of power and influence. As it turns out, that person is Shaddiq. He may be an adoptive son to the Grassley house, but his ambition runs deeper than most members of the prestigious Benerit Group.

As a matter of fact, Shaddiq even said in this episode that he wishes to break up the Benerit Group. He thinks that they have too much power and influence as it is, and they have their hands on practically every facet of technology and military, which is dangerous. That being said, it’s unclear whether Shaddiq simply wishes to dissolve the Benerit Group or he intends to take over what’s left of the group once he’s done breaking it up.

This episode also let us into one of Shaddiq’s biggest secrets, which is his connection to mercenaries from earth. It’s unclear when or why Shaddiq knew the mercenary, but it’s clear that it is not the first time he used their services. As it stands, Shaddiq could turn into a secret villain of the story.

Diverging Into A Darker Path

Gundam: The Witch From Mercury has been rather wholesome from the start of the series, which is one of the things that is so polarizing about it. After all, a bunch of students having fun at an elite space academy is not the thing that comes to mind when we talk about a major Gundam series. That is why on one hand, it is a new and fun concept, but on the other hand, it is not what the fans are expecting from a major Gundam series like this.

That being said, it is clear that this series has slowly but surely veered into its dark, thrilling path. From human clones to assassination attempts, the darker aspects of the story have begun to creep up. That is certainly great news for the fans. And episode 10 seems to be the one that set the stage for what could possibly be the turning point for this series.

After all, this is the first time we could witness a proper space fight between mobile suits since the Prologue episode. Not only that, the repercussion behind Delling’s assassination attempt, whether it would be successful or not, would send massive waves throughout the universe. So we can expect even more exciting stuff to happen in the near future.

Unlike the previous episode, there’s no action at all in episode 10. What it has done, however, is setting the stage for something bigger in the future. After all, you can’t just hire Earthian mercenaries who use two rogue Gundams to kill the most powerful man in the universe and expect nothing bad to happen afterwards. There are so many ways for things to go wrong with Shaddiq’s plan, and that means we can expect to see even more crazy things in the subsequent episodes.
