Guinness World Records has officially announced the all-time “Top 50 Video Game Series” as voted on by its readers. The list includes all titles and spin-offs. After more than 13,000 votes were tallied, Halo, Call of Duty, and the Legend of Zelda won the day.

Microsoft’s  franchise Halo took first place. Here’s a description of Halo, according to the Gamer’s Edition:

Call of Duty and The Legend of Zelda took the second and third spots. Call of Duty, with Modern Warfare 2, pretty much had the most successful game launch of all time. The Legend of Zelda is literally a legend, as it is the best selling role playing, puzzle, and action franchise for Nintendo.

Instead of asking developers and others in the gaming business this year, Guinness World Records Gaming Editor Gaz Deaves had another idea in mind, and polled the players instead:

The rest of the list is as follows:

I am surprised to see some games in certain standings. Games like Pac-Man and Pong are influential, no argument there, but I guess I’m just oblivious to the fact they still have such a large fan base still standing in the industry. And my personal favorites like Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and LittleBigPlanet scored much lower than I would suspect.

What are your thoughts on the supposed Top 50 Games Video Game Series of All Time?
