Instead of taking a break, del Toro has added another project to his plate. In a recent interview, del Toro put the speculation to rest and confirmed that he is working with THQ on a series of triple-A horror games.
Guillermo del Toro has been trying to get into the video game industry for several years now and was originally pitching a title called Sundown.
If any director is capable of making the jump from movies to video games it is del Toro. He is an all out geek who truly loves the worlds he creates and brings to life. Spielberg’s Boom Blox games are great, but I don’t think he has the same connection to the medium as del Toro, who plays Left 4 Dead with his daughters.
Throughout the interview, del Toro emphasizes the fact that these games are BIG, both in concept and budget. Game Rant has talked before about the downfalls and expense of developing triple-A games, but it appears that THQ really believes in what del Toro wants to do.
When asked for more details on the series with THQ, he doesn’t reveal much besides the fact that it isn’t the game Sundown.
Even though he didn’t reveal any explicit details, this title definitely has my attention and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store. I would love to see Guillermo del Toro create a bizarre and unabashedly geeky RPG.
The wait shouldn’t be long and we can hope to hear more from THQ in the next few days.
Do film directors belong in the video game world? Are you excited for Guillermo del Toro’s partnership with THQ?
