Early last year, Guild Wars 2 released its third expansion pack, titled End of Dragons. In addition to an epic conclusion of the Elder Dragon saga, the expansion added new Elite specializations, zones, and mechanics. One such feature was the jade bot–an adorable little companion with helpful utility both in and out of combat.

Starting January 31, Guild Wars 2 is adding jade bot terminals to Lion’s Arch and the five capital cities associated with each player race. These terminals, previously only found in End of Dragons’ Cantha zones, allow players to remotely fly their jade bot. Doing so allows players to assume direct control of the little robot, exploring hidden nooks and crannies of the world–and get some amazing vantage points to appreciate the many zones of Guild Wars 2.

These jade bot terminals are a part of the first game update coming to Guild Wars 2 this year. ArenaNet has big plans for Guild Wars 2 in 2023, and players can expect a new Living World season continuing the story of End of Dragons soon. In the meantime, Guild Wars 2 is currently updating its minimum system requirements, and has already begun work on its fourth expansion pack.

Many Guild Wars 2 players are excited ArenaNet doesn’t seem to be leaving jade bots behind after End of Dragons. ArenaNet is exceptionally good at designing evergreen systems thanks to the Mastery Tracks, which enables Guild Wars 2 mounts, gliders, and other features to be useful, even outside the original areas they were designed for. Fans are excited to be able to use some of the region-locked features like remote flying even outside Cantha.

On the other hand, some players don’t think Guild Wars 2 is doing enough with the jade bot. Many hope they can eventually remote control their jade bots anywhere, without the need for specific terminals. If ArenaNet also allowed the jade bot to have a first-person view, fans could use their jade bots as a photo mode to take some truly stunning screenshots of their favorite Guild Wars 2 characters and areas. If players are lucky, ArenaNet will continue to add more features to the jade bot to let them truly shine in all parts of Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2 is available for PC.
